Depiction
An event for artists looking for new creative inspiration, to challenge their skills and experience the joys of live drawing.
Dance has always been a huge inspiration for many artists from one fo the earliest forms of art , cave paintings, to the likes of famous artistes such as Edgar Degas, Ernst Oppler! Much like Degas and Oppler, artists have a been known to enter dance classes to seek inspiration. There is something almost other-worldly about the realm of dance that artists enthuse to portray in their work.
For the dancers, who in their own way are artists, the opportunity to see themselves and their movements come to life in this way is an exciting new experience. If we could see the shapes and lines their movements create through space as they dance, the painting would be phenomenal… and this essentially is the idea behind Depiction.
Dancers will perform improvised movement sequences or will stand static in varying poses, for the artists to depict in their personal artistic style. The event provides the opportunity for artists to work with live dancers/models, to explore and challenge their skills and provides a unique performance opportunity for dancers.
The first event was held on Wednesday 15th March 2023 at Harmony Community Centre in Maidstone in their newly renovated theatre space. After the huge success of the event with 100% of participants (dancers and artists) saying they would attend again and recommend the event to a friend, we intend to hold more events in varying locations across Kent!
Sessions will be an hour and a half long, with seating and refreshments provided. Artists are expected to bring their own materials, however we will have a small selection provided.
This is a new event and feedback from those involved is highly encouraged! We aim to bring together creative people and form a community of like-minded individuals!
